Quran Teacher Malawi

Before you look for a Quran teacher Malawi wide, check what is near you first. Quran Pak Teacher teaches students in Lilongwe, Blantyre, Mangochi, Zomba, Mzuzu, Balaka and Salima. Malawi already has strong Quran teaching, so we will say plainly who we suit and who we do not.

What Malawi already has

Malawi has one of the largest Muslim communities in southern Africa. The 2018 Population and Housing Census counted 2,426,754 Muslims, or 13.8 percent of 17,563,749 people, as reported by the National Statistical Office. About 72 percent are ethnic Yao, concentrated in the Southern Region.

That community built real institutions. The Muslim Association of Malawi runs Zomba Islamic High School. Mangochi has the Imam Bukhari Islamic Centre and the Hajj Nazeer and Naseema Mustapha Educational Centre. Lilongwe has Mai Aisha Academy, plus the Central Masjid, Area 9 Musjid, the Area 13 mosque and Masjid Riyadhul Jannah. Mangochi Muslim Jamat Masjid has taught since the 1950s.

If your child can reach a madrassa in Mangochi or Area 9, send them. Most Malawian Muslim children can, and they should.

So who are our lessons for?

Three groups, and we would rather be clear than sell to everyone.

Families in Mzuzu, Karonga or Kasungu in the Northern Region, where Muslims are few and madrassas are far apart.

Parents who want one to one correction on top of madrassa. Group classes of forty children cannot fix one child’s makhraj. A private half hour can.

Adults who never finished, and women who want a female teacher at a set time rather than a shared room.

A point of difference we will not hide

Most Malawian Muslims follow the Shafi’i school. Our teachers are Hanafi, trained in Lahore.

For recitation this changes nothing. Malawi reads Hafs an Asim and so do we, so the letters, the rules and the sound are identical. The difference shows in fiqh, such as small details of wudu and the position of the hands in salah.

Our teachers will teach your child to recite. On matters of fiqh they will point you to your own imam rather than teach against your madhhab. If you want fiqh taught the Shafi’i way, a local scholar is the better choice and we will say so.

One thing does connect us. Malawi’s Asian origin Muslim families are largely Hanafi, and the Deobandi teaching line runs through Mangochi. Urdu sits inside that history, and Urdu is our teachers’ first language.

Class times, with three hours between us

Malawi runs on Central Africa Time, UTC plus 2. Lahore, where our teachers sit, is UTC plus 5. That is a gap of three hours.

After school in Malawi, 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, is 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm in Lahore. Early morning in Malawi, 6:00 am to 8:00 am, is 9:00 am to 11:00 am in Lahore.

Lessons run 30 minutes, Monday to Friday, with 40 minutes for older students.

Female teachers for sisters and daughters

Female teachers are available and you can ask for one at booking. Changing teacher after the free lessons costs nothing.

Keeping children safe in class

Every teacher is identity checked and their credentials confirmed before assignment. Your child keeps one teacher, not a rotating pool. Any parent may join any lesson without warning us. Lessons are held on Zoom, or Microsoft Teams if that works better on your line, and recording is your choice. Concerns go to our admin on WhatsApp and reach a person.

Fees and paying from Malawi

Twenty classes a month cost 30 US dollars, Monday to Friday. In Kwacha that is real money, so we say it plainly rather than hide it behind a form. Details sit on the monthly fee page.

Payment is by card or bank transfer. Airtel Money and TNM Mpamba do not send funds abroad directly, so most families here pay through a bank or a relative overseas. Three free classes come first, so you test us before spending anything.
