Islamic Quran Academy teaches Muslim families across Norway by live video. Every student gets a private teacher, not a group class. Lessons run 30 minutes a day, Monday to Friday, at times you pick. Your first lesson is free. All our teachers are Hafiz or Hafiza, which means they have memorised the whole Quran.

Why families here study from home

Norway has about 182,600 Muslims, roughly 3.4 percent of the country, and most live in and around Oslo Statistics Norway. The largest communities come from Pakistan, Somalia, Iraq and Syria.

If you live in Grønland, Tøyen or Furuset, a mosque is close by. Central Jamaat e Ahl e Sunnat sits on Urtegate. Baitun Nasr stands beside the E6 at Furuset. Many families still find the class times do not work.

Outside the capital it is harder. In Ålesund, Bodø, Kristiansand or Tromsø there may be no children’s Quran class at all. Driving to one in January, on ice, in the dark, is not realistic for most parents.

Class times that fit the Norwegian school day

This is where most academies get it wrong. They offer one fixed slot in the late afternoon.

In Oslo, the Aktivitetsskolen (AKS) is normally open until 16:30, though this varies by school Oslo kommune. Outside Oslo the same service is called SFO. Most parents collect their child between 16:00 and 17:00. Add travel, a meal and homework, and a 16:00 lesson is impossible.

We teach on Central European Time, the same clock you use. Common slots our families choose:

Early morning before school, around 06:45. Late afternoon at 17:30 or 18:00, after pickup and food. Evening at 19:30 for teenagers and adults. Saturday and Sunday mornings for children doing Hifz.

Your teachers

Lessons can be taught in English or in Urdu. Many children born in Norway speak Norwegian and English far better than Urdu, while their parents are more comfortable in Urdu. You choose the language, and you can change it after the trial if it is not working.

We do not currently have Somali speaking teachers. We say this openly rather than let a family find out in week two.

Sisters and ladies

Female students can be matched with a Hafiza. Lessons happen in your own home, so there is no travel, no need for anyone to accompany you, and no concern about hijab. Adult women who never finished Qaida as children are welcome. Starting from the first letter as an adult is normal here, not unusual.

Courses We Offer

Noorani Qaida

Designed for complete beginners with no prior knowledge of Arabic letters. Students learn to recognise and correctly pronounce the Arabic alphabet, understand basic vowel signs (zabar, zair, pesh), and build the foundation needed before moving on to Quran reading. This course is essential for young children and adult beginners alike.

Nazra (Quran Reading)

Once the basics are in place, students progress to reading directly from the Quran. This course focuses on fluent, accurate reading of the full text from cover to cover, building confidence and consistency in recitation.

Tajweed

This course covers the rules of correct Quranic recitation (Tajweed) alongside Makhraj — the precise articulation points of each Arabic letter. Students learn how and where each sound is produced in the mouth and throat, ensuring recitation matches the way the Quran was revealed and traditionally taught.

Hifz (Memorisation)

For students wishing to memorise the Quran, either in full or in part. This course includes structured daily targets, regular revision (Dawr) to retain memorised portions, and one-to-one guidance from a Hifz teacher to track progress and correct mistakes.

Hifz

A flexible option for school-age children who cannot attend on weekdays due to school commitments. Classes are held on weekends, allowing students to work steadily toward memorisation alongside their regular studies.

Tarjuma (Word-by-Word Translation)

Students learn the literal, word-by-word meaning of the Quran in Urdu or English. This builds a direct understanding of the text and helps learners connect with the meaning behind what they recite.

Tafseer (Quranic Exegesis)

An in-depth study of the Quran’s meaning, context, and interpretation. This course explores the historical background of revelations, scholarly commentary, and the practical lessons drawn from various verses and chapters.

What parents ask about safety

You may sit in on any lesson, at any time, without telling us first. Your child keeps the same teacher every week, so nobody new appears on screen. We suggest holding lessons in a shared room rather than a bedroom. Classes run on Zoom or Google Meet. We share the Qaida and Quran on screen, so there are no books to buy.

Fees

About 350 NOK per month for 20 lessons. That is 30 USD, 30 GBP or 30 EUR. Each lesson is 30 minutes, one to one, five days a week.

For comparison, a local private tutor in Norway is usually charged by the hour, and a group class at a koranskole often costs 400 to 500 NOK a month.

A note on the northern winter

In Tromsø the sun stays below the horizon from 27 November until 15 January timeanddate. Even in Oslo, December afternoons are dark before 16:00.

This changes two things. Prayer times shift a lot across the year, so a slot that suits you in June may not suit you in December. And after school activities become harder for children. Ask us to move your lesson time in autumn and again in spring. Families who do this stay consistent. Families who do not usually stop by February.
