Quran Teacher Ecuador

We teach the Quran one to one over live video to students in Ecuador. Classes run in the Ecuadorian morning, thirty minutes each, five days a week, with the same teacher every time. Your first three classes are free. After that, twenty classes cost $30 a month. Every tutor is a Hafiz or Hafiza, and both male and female teachers are available.

Morning classes, and why we do not offer evenings

Ecuador is ten hours behind Pakistan, where our teachers live. An evening class in Quito lands in the middle of the night in Lahore, so we do not offer one. We would rather say that than book a slot we cannot keep.

Mornings work for both sides: A 6:30am class in Quito is 4:30pm for your teacher. A 7:30am class is 5:30pm. Most students finish before school or work starts. Saturday and Sunday mornings run the same way and are the easiest slots to book.

One local advantage: Ecuador has not used daylight saving since 1993, and sitting on the equator its sunrise barely shifts across the year. A morning time you pick in March still works in September, and still works through Ramadan. In most countries families have to move their class twice a year. Here you set it once.

If you live in Galápagos, remember the islands run an hour behind the mainland, so a 6:30am mainland slot is 5:30am for you.

Muslim families in Ecuador

There are about three formal mosques in the country, so most families live nowhere near one.

Quito has two: The Mezquita Khalid Ibn Al-Walid began in 1991 and held its first prayers in a private apartment. The Mezquita Assalam, run by the Centro Islámico del Ecuador, sits on Avenida 18 de Septiembre near General Plaza, a short walk from Casa de la Cultura and the San Francisco stop on Línea 1. Founded on 15 October 1994, it was the first Muslim organisation the government recognised, confirmed by Ministerial Agreement 720 in 1998, and its director is Dr Juan Yahya Suquillo. The centre says the community grew from nine Muslims in Quito to several thousand today.

Guayaquil has the Centro Islámico Al Hijra, started in 2004 by Juan Saud, Ali Said and Mazhar Farooq, and based in a three storey building since 2020.

Beyond those two cities there is nothing: Families in Cuenca, Manta, Ambato, Loja, Machala and Portoviejo have no mosque and no weekend school within reach.

Ecuador’s community has two halves: Some descend from Lebanese, Palestinian, Syrian and Egyptian traders who arrived in the early twentieth century and settled in Quito, Guayaquil and the provinces of Manabí, Los Ríos and Esmeraldas. Others are Ecuadorians who came to Islam themselves, which is why both centres are led by Ecuadorian names. We teach both the same way, starting from whatever the student already knows.

Adults who never learned

Many of our beginners in Latin America are adults rather than children. If you accepted Islam as an adult, or grew up in a family that never taught you to read Arabic, you are the normal case here.

You start at the first letter with one teacher, in a private class where nobody else is listening and nobody is waiting for you to catch up. Most adults reach the short surahs within a few months.

Our teachers and how they recite

Our tutors come from Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. Some are native Arabic speakers and some are not. All are Hafiz or Hafiza, and all teach Hafs an Asim.

That matters locally. Hafs an Asim is the reading used in the Quito and Guayaquil mosques, so a student learns to recite the same way as the imam at Jumu’ah. You can read more about our academy and see what families say in our student feedback.

Female Quran teachers in Ecuador

Female tutors teach girls and women, and you choose the teacher’s gender when you book. For sisters learning alone, the class is private and nobody else joins the call.

Fees

Twenty classes a month cost $30. Ecuador uses the US dollar, so that is the amount you pay, with no conversion and no exchange charge. There is no joining fee and no charge for materials. Payment is by Western Union, and full details sit on our monthly fee page.

Your three trial classes are free. You owe nothing if you decide not to continue.

If you miss a class

Message your teacher or our office before the lesson and we move it. Families travel, children fall ill, and school terms shift. A missed class we know about in advance is rescheduled, not lost.

Where we teach in Ecuador

We take students anywhere with a working internet connection. That covers Quito and Pichincha, Guayaquil and Guayas, Cuenca, Santo Domingo, Manta, Portoviejo, Ambato, Machala and Loja, along with families in Manabí, Los Ríos and Esmeraldas.

You need a phone, tablet or laptop. Classes run on Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams. We also teach families in the United States and Canada, which sit in nearby time zones, and our full online Quran academy covers children and adults alike.
