Quran Teacher Austria

Quran Pak Teacher teaches Muslim families across Austria by live video. Lessons run 30 minutes, Monday to Friday, with a male or female Hafiz teacher. The fee is €30 a month for 20 classes. You get three free trial classes first, and no card is needed to book them.

We have taught online since 2020 from Lahore, Pakistan. Our students live in Austria, Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States and Australia.

What Austrian schools teach, and what they leave out

Austria is unusual in Europe. Islam has held legal recognition since the Islamgesetz of 1912, and Islamischer Religionsunterricht has been taught in public schools since the 1982/83 school year. The Schulamt of the IGGÖ sets the curriculum and appoints the teachers, and the state pays them. More than 100,000 pupils are registered for it.

This is something Austrian Muslim families worked for, and it does real good. But it is a school subject taught in German, and it covers belief, history and practice. It is not built to teach a child to read Arabic script, or to correct one child’s recitation letter by letter every week.

That is the part we do. Your child can attend Religionsunterricht at their Volksschule or Gymnasium and still not be able to open a Mushaf. We work alongside that subject, not instead of it.

What we actually correct

Most teaching pages say they fix Tajweed. Very few say what needs fixing. Here is what an Austrian child usually gets wrong, and why.

The heavy letters flatten: German has no emphatic consonants. So Taw slides into Ta, Saad into Seen, Daad into Daal, and Qaaf into Kaaf. The child reads smoothly and reads wrong, which is why the mistake often goes unnoticed for years.

Ra and Ghain get swapped: The German R is made at the back of the throat, almost exactly where Ghain lives. Children carry that habit into Arabic and say Ghain in place of Ra with full confidence. We train the tip of the tongue as a separate skill.

Ayn has no equal in any language your child speaks: Not German, not Turkish, not Bosnian. It is usually the last letter a student controls, and we do not rush it.

Latin script at home, Arabic script nowhere: Turkish and Bosnian both use Latin letters. So a child who speaks Turkish or Bosnian at home has still never read a joined script that runs right to left, where a letter changes shape depending on where it sits in the word. The first weeks of Noorani Qaida are about that, not about speed.

We train the ear before the rule. A student hears two letters side by side many times before either one is named. Teaching Makhraj and Qalqalah too early gives a child words without sound.

Class times that fit the Austrian school year

Semesterferien are not the same across the country. Vienna and Lower Austria take the first February week, and the western Bundesländer follow later. Summer starts a week earlier in Burgenland, Lower Austria and Vienna than in Carinthia, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Styria, Tyrol and Vorarlberg. Herbstferien is now a fixed week around the Nationalfeiertag and Allerheiligen. On top of that, each school sets up to five schulautonome Tage of its own.

Tell us your Bundesland and your school, and we plan around your break weeks rather than a general calendar.

Pakistan is three hours ahead of Austrian summer time and four hours ahead in winter. Late afternoon and evening slots in Austria fall inside normal working hours for our teachers, so a time you agree in September will still be there in June.

Fees

€30 a month covers 20 classes. Monday to Friday, 30 minutes each, one student with one teacher. Payment is by Western Union. Full fee details are here.

Meet your teachers

Every teacher is a Hafiz or a Hafiza, which means they memorised the whole Quran themselves, under a teacher, over years. That is why they hear a wrong letter the moment a student says it.

We have male and female teachers. Sisters and girls can ask for a female teacher when booking, and it is an ordinary request here.

Your child keeps the same teacher. There is no rotating pool. After a few weeks that teacher knows which letters your child rushes and which ones they avoid.

Our teachers work in English. If your child is more comfortable in German, tell us during the trial classes and we will say honestly whether we are the right fit. We would rather lose a booking than waste your school year.

Your first three classes are free

Send us the student’s age and two times that suit you. We reply with a teacher and a time. In the first class the teacher finds the exact letter or rule where the student stopped, then messages you afterwards with what they found. You get three classes before any payment. If it is not right, nothing is owed.
