Before anything else, one thing needs saying. Montenegro already teaches its children the Quran, and it does it well. If a mekteb is near you, go there first.

Montenegro Already Has Quran Teaching, and It Is Good

The Islamic Community of Montenegro has its seat in Podgorica and was set up as the Muftiate of Montenegro in 1878. It runs 13 regional councils covering Bar, Berane, Bijelo Polje, Dinoša, Gusinje, Ostros, Petnjica, Plav, Pljevlja, Rožaje, Tuzi, Ulcinj and Podgorica. There are 145 active mosques.

Secondary religious schooling is settled too. The Mehmed Fatih Madrasa in Tuzi has taught since 2008, and a separate school for girls has run in Rožaje since 2001.

Now look at where Muslim families live. Rožaje is 84.66 percent Bosniak, Petnjica 83.96 percent, Plav 65.64 percent. Ulcinj is 73.53 percent Albanian. In these towns the mekteb is a short walk away, the teacher speaks your child’s first language, and it costs almost nothing. That beats any screen.

Who Online Lessons Actually Suit

Three groups fall outside that network.

Foreign resident families on the coast: Montenegro’s Interior Ministry has said roughly 98,000 foreigners live in the country, about 21,000 of them Russian. Budva has 26,500 residents by census and more than 21,000 registered foreigners. Budva, Tivat, Kotor and Herceg Novi hold most of them, and no mekteb there teaches in a language those families speak at home.

Children who need a slower pace: A mekteb class of thirty moves at one speed. A shy child, or one who has fallen behind, gets little from that. This is as true in Rožaje as in Kotor.

Online Quran Teacher Montenegro and the Hanafi School

Muslims here follow the Hanafi school, brought during the Ottoman centuries and still what the madrasas teach. Our teachers trained in Lahore, where Hanafi fiqh is the norm, so a child hears the same rulings from us as from the imam at home.

We will not oversell this. It is a match, not an advantage. Your local imam follows the same school and speaks Bosnian or Albanian as well. Our claim is availability, not better teaching.

What We Do Not Offer

We teach in Urdu and English only. Bosnian is the mother tongue of 43,470 people in Montenegro and Albanian of 32,725. We teach in neither.

If your child speaks only Bosnian, Albanian or Montenegrin, we are the wrong choice. Ask at your local džamija. Podgorica has the Osmanagić Mosque, Ulcinj has the Sailors’ Mosque, and Pljevlja has the Hussein Pasha Mosque built in the 16th century. Radio Fatih has broadcast religious programmes from Podgorica since November 2018 and reaches Plav, Gusinje, Bijelo Polje, Petnjica, Ulcinj, Berane and Rožaje.

How We Keep Lessons Safe

Montenegro is a small country and word travels, so we would rather you had proof than promises. Every lesson is recorded and the file goes to the parent, not the student.

Come into any class whenever you want. No notice, no request, no explanation. Watch for two minutes or the whole half hour. Between lessons there is no contact at all with the child. Teachers write to the parent’s number only, during working hours, and never ask a student for a photograph.

If your child also attends a mekteb, tell us. We will keep to what their teacher there is covering rather than working across it. Anything that concerns you goes to one named coordinator through our contact page, answered within a day.

Our Courses

Six programmes, one to one, half an hour a lesson, five days a week. Any of them can run alongside mekteb attendance rather than replacing it.

Noorani Qaida

For a child who cannot yet read Arabic script. Letters, then their shapes inside words, then the vowel marks, before the Quran is opened. A one to one class usually moves faster than a group of thirty. See the Noorani Qaida course.

Quran Reading With Tajweed

Bosnian and Albanian speakers tend to soften ع into a plain vowel and harden ق. Teachers isolate each sound and drill it until it holds inside a full verse. See the Quran reading page.

Female Teachers for Sisters and Daughters

Women teach our female students. Montenegro already provides for schoolgirls through Rožaje and Tuzi, so our usual student here is an adult. Women who learned by rote as children and want tajweed corrected privately, without sitting in a class where everyone knows the family.

Fees and Payment
