Quran Teacher Liechtenstein

Your child can learn to read the Quran with the same teacher every weekday, from home in Vaduz, Schaan, Triesen or Balzers. Lessons run thirty minutes, Monday to Friday, one student and one teacher. Twenty lessons a month cost 30 euros, close to 28 Swiss francs at recent rates. That works out at roughly one and a half francs a lesson. You get three free trial classes before you pay anything.

Why families here study online

Liechtenstein has about 40,000 residents. The 2020 census recorded Muslims at around six percent of the population, most with roots in Turkey, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and North Macedonia.

The United States Department of State, in its annual International Religious Freedom review, reports that the country has no purpose built mosque. One prayer room operates in leased space in Triesen, run by the Turkish Islamic Community. A second association meets in Sevelen, across the Rhine in Switzerland.

For most families that means no weekly Quran class within walking distance. Driving a child to Sevelen or Buchs twice a week, after school and before dinner, is a lot to ask in winter. Online lessons remove the drive.

How the timing works

Liechtenstein runs on Central European Time. Our teachers are in Lahore, four hours ahead in winter and three hours ahead in summer. A lesson at four in the afternoon in Schaan is eight in the evening in Lahore.

Afternoon and early evening slots, the ones that fit around Primarschule and Oberschule timetables, are the easiest for us to fill. A child finishing at the Liechtensteinisches Gymnasium on Marianumstrasse, or at a village school in Mauren or Ruggell, can start a lesson within the hour. Weekend slots are available.

Who teaches your child

Hafiz Ali Ahmad has taught for ten years. He teaches Noorani Qaida, Quran reading and Hifz, in English and Urdu.

Hafiz Umair Akram has also taught for ten years. He teaches Quran reading, Tajweed and Tarjuma, in English and Urdu.

We have female teachers for sisters and for girls whose parents prefer it. Your daughter is taught by the same woman each session, not a rotating pool.

Classes are taught in English and Urdu. We do not have a German speaking teacher. For most families here a parent speaks one of those languages, but you should know that before you book rather than after.

Which recitation we teach

We teach Hafs an Asim. This is the reading printed in the standard Mushaf and the one used by almost all Turkish, Bosnian, Kosovar and Macedonian families in this region, so it will match the Quran already in your home.

If your family reads Warsh an Nafi, tell us during the trial classes. We will say honestly whether we can teach it rather than starting your child on a reading you did not ask for.

What we teach

Noorani Qaida is where students begin if they do not yet know the Arabic letters. It covers the alphabet and the rules for pronouncing Quranic words correctly.

Quran reading with Tajweed follows. Our own guidance is that a beginner takes six to twelve months to read fluently with correct Tajweed, depending on how often they practise between lessons. We would rather give you that number than a shorter one.

Hifz is memorisation built on small daily portions and steady revision of what is already learned.

Urdu lessons are for families who want their children to keep the language. Our full course list covers each one.

Adults who never learned

Many of our students are adults. Some are in their thirties and forties and have never read past a few short surahs. Some feel awkward about that.

Lessons are private, so nobody else hears you. Most adult students begin at the letters, the same place a child begins. We teach students from age four through to elderly learners, and nobody is asked to explain why they are starting now.

Where our students live

We teach families across all eleven municipalities: Vaduz, Schaan, Triesen, Balzers, Eschen, Mauren, Triesenberg, Ruggell, Gamprin, Schellenberg and Planken.

Daily life crosses the borders here, so we also teach families in Buchs, Sevelen and Sargans in Switzerland, and in Feldkirch in Austria. Same fee, same teachers, same times. We run classes in Germany and Italy as well.

A phone, tablet or laptop with a camera, and a steady internet connection. Nothing needs buying before the first class.
