Islamic Quran Academy gives families in Grenada live one to one Quran lessons over video. A Hafiz or Hafiza teaches for 30 minutes a day, Monday to Friday. Fees are US$30 a month for 20 lessons. Male and female tutors are available. You get three free trial classes before you pay anything.

Why our lessons run in the morning

Grenada keeps Atlantic Standard Time, which is UTC-4. Our teachers work from Lahore at UTC+5. That is a nine hour gap, and it decides everything about how we schedule.

Mornings are the good window. A 6am lesson in St George’s is 3pm in Lahore. A 7am lesson is 4pm. An 8am lesson is 5pm. On Saturdays a 10am lesson is 7pm here, which suits families who want a longer weekend session.

Evenings do not work. A 7pm class in Grand Anse would be 4am for the teacher. We would rather tell you that now than take your booking and then cancel it.

The Grenadian school year follows the British pattern, with the Michaelmas Term opening at the end of August (Ministry of Education, via NOW Grenada). A short lesson at 6:30am or 7am fits before a child leaves for Tanteen, Happy Hill or Grenville, and it is finished before the school day starts.

Families we teach across the island

Grenada’s Muslim community is small. The US State Department has recorded two mosques on the island and noted that foreign students at St George’s University are not counted in census figures (US Department of State).

The main masjid is Masjid ul Madina at Calliste in St George’s, built by the Grenada Islamic Foundation on land donated in 1999 near Point Salines. Its roof was badly damaged when Hurricane Ivan came through in September 2004. Before it was built, Friday prayer was held at the Youth Centre in Grand Anse.

For a family in Grenville, Gouyave or over on Carriacou, that is a long way to travel for a regular class. This is what we offer instead.

For students at St George’s University

If you are studying medicine or veterinary science at True Blue, this is written for you.

Lessons are private, so nobody hears you struggle with a letter you have not read since childhood. A 6am or 7am slot finishes before lectures. Sessions are 30 minutes, not an hour, because that is what fits a rotation schedule. You can pause your plan during exam weeks and pick up afterwards without losing your teacher or paying for classes you did not take.

Beginners and returning readers are equally welcome.

Who will teach you

Two of the teachers working with families in the Caribbean are Hafiz Ali Ahmad and Hafiz Umair Akram. Both have memorised the Quran in full. Our wider team includes tutors from Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. Lessons are taught in English or Urdu, and our teachers teach Hafs ‘an ‘Asim.

You can ask for a female Quran teacher when you book. Many families want a woman teaching their daughters, and adult sisters learning alone often prefer it. We do not treat this as a special request.

What we teach

Noorani Qaida for anyone starting at the Arabic letters. There is also a longer Qaida course for kids and adults.

Quran reading, or Nazra, for students who know the letters and want to read fluently.

Quran with Tajweed: The course covers makharij, the points in the mouth and throat where each letter forms, and the sifat that describe how it sounds. It then works through heavy and light letters, qalqalah, the rules of noon sakinah and tanween, meem sakinah, madd, and the types of waqf so you know where to stop and where to carry on.

Most English speakers get stuck in the same two places. The letters ح and ه sound identical to an untrained ear, and ض, ظ and ع have no match in English at all. The teacher slows the sound down and shows where in the throat it forms. It takes weeks of practice, not one lesson.

How to start

1. Message us on WhatsApp with the student’s age and level.
2. Take your three free classes at a morning time that suits you.
3. If it works, pick your five days and start.

If something goes wrong

Your child keeps the same teacher every day. If the match is wrong, tell us and we change it at no cost.

Miss a lesson, let the teacher know in advance, and we reschedule it. If a teacher misses a lesson, you get it back.

Pause during exams or travel and your slot is held. Stop whenever you want. There is no notice period and our refund policy is published in full.

Fees

US$30 a month covers 20 lessons. That is 30 minutes a day, five days a week, one to one. No joining fee, no charge for materials, which keeps it affordable for a family with more than one child.

The East Caribbean dollar is fixed at EC$2.70 to US$1.00 and has been since 1976 (Eastern Caribbean Central Bank). So the monthly fee is EC$81. Full fee details are here.
