The teachers are based in Lahore, Pakistan, and explain each lesson in English, or in Urdu if you prefer. Classes are 30 minutes long on weekdays, and 20 of them cost $30 per month. Muslim Life on New Providence Today

The Jamaa’ Ahlus Sunnah Bahamas mosque, once known as the Jamaat Ul Islam Mosque, is listed on Carmichael Road. It opened in 1978 and has three domes and a minaret. Community reports describe more than 300 Muslims in Nassau, with over 60 people at Friday prayer. Worshippers include families from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Turkey and Guyana.

Quran Learning in Bahamas Beyond Nassau

A family in Freeport, Marsh Harbour or George Town has no mosque class nearby. Taking the mailboat from Potter’s Cay Dock every week for a lesson is not realistic, but a phone with home internet is. Converts on Eleuthera or Andros may be the only Muslim family in their settlement.

What to Look for in a Quran Teacher in Bahamas Homes

Ask for names before you enrol. Hafiz Ali Ahmad and Hafiz Umair Akram have each taught the Quran for 10 years. Sisters and daughters may request a female Quran teacher, and a parent can stay in the room while a child reads. Our recitation follows Hafs an Asim.

Bahamians speak English, so a new Muslim in Nassau can follow the teacher from the first lesson, and South Asian families can choose Urdu.

Lesson Times From Nassau to Lahore

Nassau keeps New York time. Lahore is 9 hours ahead until the clocks change on 1 November 2026, then 10 hours ahead in winter. A 4:00 pm lesson in Nassau starts at 1:00 am in Lahore in summer and 2:00 am in winter. Teachers are on duty through the Lahore night, so slots after school and after work in Nassau are covered. Weekend lessons are not offered.

All six courses are one to one lessons, so no misread letter slips past the teacher.

Starting from zero: New readers begin with Noorani Qaida online, practising letters and joined forms aloud.

Tajweed: Tajweed means reciting every letter from its correct point, with the right length and sound. The reading course trains makharij, ghunnah and madd, so students who want to learn Quran online with Tajweed build good habits early.

Memorising: Quran memorization classes give each student a portion sized to their age, plus daily review.

Tarjuma: The translation course covers the meaning of each Quranic word in English or Urdu.

Tafseer: Students who study Quran Tafseer online learn why a passage was revealed.

Urdu language: Children of South Asian doctors and business owners in Nassau can stay close to their grandparents’ language through our Urdu course.
