Quran Teacher Cameroon

Families across Cameroon can study with a qualified Quran teacher over live video. Classes run one to one for 30 minutes a day, Monday to Friday, and cost 30 euros a month for 20 classes. The Central African CFA franc is pegged to the euro, so that comes to about 19,700 XAF. You get three free trial classes before you pay anything.

You keep the same teacher every week. A parent may sit in on any lesson, at any time, without asking first.

Most Muslim families in Cameroon live far from the cities where Quran centres are based. According to the US Department of State, the highest share of Muslims lives in the North, Far North, Northwest, Adamawa and East Regions, with the Bamoun community in the West Region. Learning online removes the distance completely.

Online Quran classes in Cameroon and how they work

Lessons run on Zoom or Google Meet. A phone works as well as a laptop. If the signal weakens, video switches off and the lesson carries on by voice, which matters on mobile data.

Cameroon keeps one time zone, West Africa Time, and never changes clocks. Our teachers work from Lahore, four hours ahead. A 2pm lesson in Garoua is 6pm here. A 5pm lesson in Douala is 9pm here. Both sit inside our teaching day, so we can offer after school and after work times rather than mornings only.

Miss a lesson and we reschedule it as a make up class when you ask.

Language of instruction

Classes are taught in English and Arabic. Urdu is available on request.

Cameroon has two official languages, so English lessons suit Anglophone families in the Northwest and Southwest, and many households in Douala and Yaoundé. Chadian Arabic is widely spoken across the Far North, so Arabic lessons work well for families there. Fulfulde is the main language of the Muslim north, and we do not teach in it. If you are more comfortable in French, tell us at signup and we will say honestly whether we can match you before you book a trial.

Who these Quran classes are for

Quran classes for kids in Cameroon: Most children start between ages five and eleven. A lesson fits after school and before Maghrib. Parents watch as often as they like.

Quran classes for adults: Many adults read the letters but were never corrected properly. Private lessons remove the embarrassment of that. Complete beginners start from the alphabet with nothing assumed.

Female and male teachers: A female Hafiza can be requested at signup for a daughter or for yourself. She teaches one to one, with no group class and no male student present. Male teachers are available on the same terms.

What you learn

Noorani Qaida

Letters, sounds and joining. This is where we fix the sounds French and English speakers find hardest, such as ع, ح and ق, and the pairs children mix up like ب, ت and ث. Most children finish Qaida in six to nine months. Younger learners follow our Qaida course for kids and adults.

Nazra, or Quran reading

Reading from the mushaf with correct pronunciation. We work on Makharij, the points in the mouth and throat where each letter is formed. This stage usually runs one to two years.

Quran with Tajweed

The rules applied while reciting, including Ghunnah, Qalqalah, the types of Madd, and the rules of Noon Sakinah and Meem Sakinah. Rules come after the ear can hear the difference, not before.

Hifz

Memorisation with a set revision routine, starting with Juz Amma and the surahs used daily in salah.

Our teachers recite and teach in Hafs an Asim. Warsh an Nafi is common across this region, so if your child already reads Warsh at a local Quranic school, tell us at signup and we will explain the difference before you book. Tarjuma, Tafseer and Urdu run as separate courses.

Your teachers

Every teacher is a certified Hafiz or Hafiza. Both men and women teach. All are qualified tutors at our online Quran academy in Lahore, which has taught online since 2020, with students in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada and Australia.

Hafiz Ali Ahmad and Hafiz Umair Akram each have ten years of teaching experience. Both teach Qaida, Nazra, Tajweed and Hifz, and both work with children and adults.

Three things we commit to. You get the same teacher every lesson, not a rotating pool. A parent is welcome in any lesson, announced or not. If the teacher is not the right fit, we change them once you ask, at no cost, and your progress notes move with you.

Fees and value

Thirty euros a month covers 20 classes of 30 minutes, one to one. There is no registration fee, no book fee and no charge for the three trial classes. Our refund policy is published in full.

Quranic schools across the north already teach thousands of children and do that work well. What they rarely offer is a lesson timed around school, one student to one teacher, and a parent able to listen in from home. That is what you are paying for here.

Learning Quran across Cameroon

We teach students in Garoua on the Bénoué River, in Maroua below the Mandara Mountains, and in Ngaoundéré on the Adamawa plateau. Families near the University of Maroua and in Garoua neighbourhoods such as Roumde Adjia and Yelwa book the same slots as families in the capital.

Foumban and the wider Bamoun community in the West Region are served too, along with Douala, Yaoundé, Bafoussam, Bamenda, Buea and Kumba. Distance changes nothing about the lesson.
