Quran Teacher Malta

Islamic Quran Academy gives families in Malta live one to one Quran lessons over video. A Hafiz or Hafiza teaches your child for 30 minutes a day, Monday to Friday. Fees are €30 a month for 20 lessons. Male and female tutors are available. You get three free trial classes before you pay anything.

Why families in Malta look for lessons online

Malta’s Muslim community has grown quickly. The 2021 census counted 17,454 Muslims living on the islands, about 3.9% of the population, up from roughly 6,000 in 2010. Most are foreign residents. Only 1,746 were Maltese citizens (National Statistics Office, Malta).

That community is spread thin. Malta has one purpose built mosque, Mariam Al-Batool in Paola, up on Corradino Heights. It opened to the public in 1982. The school beside it takes children at kindergarten and primary level. Beyond that, families rely on about fifteen smaller prayer rooms in places like Marsa, Birkirkara, Msida, San Ġwann, Fgura, Sliema, Ħal Far, Qawra, Buġibba and Żurrieq.

So a family in Mosta or St Paul’s Bay who wants steady Quran lessons for a ten year old faces a long drive to Paola several evenings a week, or nothing. That gap is the reason we built this service.

We teach students across Valletta, Sliema, St Julian’s, Birkirkara, Ħamrun, Marsa, Paola, Qormi, Msida, Gżira, Mosta, Naxxar, San Ġwann, Swieqi, Żabbar, Fgura, Marsaskala, St Paul’s Bay, Birżebbuġa and Victoria on Gozo.

We also teach families in Italy, Germany and the United Kingdom.

Lesson times that fit the Maltese school day

State primary schools in Malta run from 08:30 to 14:30 in winter and 08:30 to 12:15 in the summer schedule (Migrant Learners’ Unit, Ministry for Education). That leaves the afternoon and early evening free.

Malta keeps CET, which is UTC+1, and moves to CEST at UTC+2 in summer. Our teachers work from Lahore at UTC+5. So we sit four hours ahead of you in winter and three ahead in summer.

Lessons for families in Malta are booked between 2pm and 8pm Malta time. A 4pm lesson in Sliema is 8pm in Lahore. A 6pm lesson is 10pm. We also teach on weekends if weekday evenings are hard.

Who will teach your child

Two of the teachers working with families in Europe are Hafiz Ali Ahmad and Hafiz Umair Akram. Both have memorised the Quran in full and teach in English and Urdu. Our wider team includes tutors from Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia, both native Arabic speakers and non native speakers.

Your child keeps the same teacher every day. If the match is wrong after the trial classes, tell us and we will move your child to another tutor at no cost.

You can ask for a female teacher when you book. Many parents want a woman teaching their daughters, and sisters learning on their own often prefer it too. We do not treat this as a special request.

What we teach

Noorani Qaida for children and adults who are starting from the Arabic letters. There is also a longer Qaida course for kids and adults.

Quran reading, called Nazra, for students who know the letters and want to read fluently.

Quran with Tajweed: This is where most students need the real work. English speakers usually struggle with the letters ح and ه, which sound the same to an untrained ear, and with ض, ظ and ع, which have no match in English at all. A teacher fixes this by slowing the sound down and showing where in the throat it forms. It takes weeks, not one lesson.

Hifz for students memorising, whether that is Juz 30 or the whole Quran.

Tarjuma and Tafseer for students who want to understand what they recite.

What it costs

€30 a month covers 20 lessons. That is 30 minutes a day, five days a week, one to one. There is no joining fee and no charge for materials. Full fee details are here.

You pay nothing for the three trial classes and we do not ask for card details to book them. If you stop, you stop. There is no notice period, and our refund policy is published in full.
